J-1 Work and Travel/Internship/Trainee Program Eligibility Requirements
Eligibility
Work and Travel Program:
- Enrollment: Must be a full-time college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution. (Tourism and Hospitality)
- Language Proficiency: Proficient in English to engage in work and cultural activities effectively.
- Financial Stability: Demonstrate the ability to support oneself financially during the initial stay in the U.S.
- Intent to Return: Have a clear intention to return to the Philippines upon completion of the program.
- Program Duration: Comply with the program's duration limitations, typically around 4 months.
Internship Program:
- Enrollment/Eligibility: Currently enrolled in a degree or certificate-granting post-secondary institution or graduated within the last 12 months. (Tourism and Hospitality)
- Field of Study Relevance: Obtain an internship placement or training plan in the U.S. directly related to their field of study or professional career.
- Language Proficiency: Proficient in English, necessary for effective communication in the workplace.
- Financial Capability: Possess sufficient funds to cover expenses during the program.
Return Intent: Intend to return to the Philippines after completion of the program. - Program Duration: Adhere to the program's duration limitations, generally up to 12 months.
Trainee Program:
- Education/Experience: Hold a degree or professional certificate from a foreign post-secondary academic institution or possess at least one year of work experience in the occupational field outside the U.S.
- Training Plan Relevance: Have a detailed training plan or program in the U.S. directly related to their occupational field or career advancement. (Tourism and Hospitality)
- Language Proficiency: Proficient in English to effectively participate in the training program.
- Financial Stability: Possess adequate funds to cover living expenses during the duration of the program.
- Return Intent: Intend to return to the Philippines after completion of the program.
- Program Duration: Adhere to the program's duration limitations, often up to 18 months.

A U.S. Department of State-sponsored exchange program for international students and young professionals to work or intern in the U.S. while experiencing American culture.
Full-time students or recent graduates, depending on the category (Work and Travel, Intern, or Trainee).
The employment that we offer are related to the hospitality and tourism industry.
The duration varies by category. Work and Travel participants can work in the U.S. for up to four months during their university summer break. Interns can intern for up to 12 months, and Trainees can work for up to 18 months.
After your program concludes, you’ll have a grace period to prepare for departure, travel, and explore the United States. However, you must return to your home country once the program ends and not remain in the U.S. to work or study.
